The "Ugly Doll" display!

I was finally able to display the Ugly Dolls all together.  This might be my all time favorite project. Each one has an individual personality just like my students.  The students seemed to really love creating them and got so much out of this lesson.  They had to learn to keep working through mistakes.  In the end, all of the hard work made them connect with their finished project even more!

We are wrapping up the Ugly Doll project in 6th grade.  The students have certainly overexceeded my expectations.  I plan on displaying all of them together soon in one of the glass display cases so stay tuned!  Here are a few examples.  These dolls have personality to say the least!

I am very pleased with the work the 6th grade has been doing on their Ugly Dolls.  This lesson has been better than I ever expected and the kids are getting so much out of it.  I am so proud of my students!

Mirror Image Names - 6th Grade

I like to start off the year with this simple lesson on symmetry.  We discussed line, design, and symmetry.  Students created a linear design with symmetry using their own names, nicknames, pet names or team names.  They examined a variety of printed out fonts to help decide on the font they wanted to use.
